In 1984 the LaVere family brought home a tiny black bundle
of wrinkles. This was the beginning of a love affair that has lasted more than 25 years. From this humble beginning, the little black Shar-Pei female, Shumi, started a legacy that would include 2 World Champions and Westminster Kennel Club Best of Breed winners.
Bruce Lee's Shew Moi taught us how unique a breed
of dog could be. A wonderful family dog, social, funny and intelligent. A dog so meticulous about it's personal hygiene, she literally screamed to be taken out of her box to go potty. Shumi grew up with our children and in time had children
of her own. Her first litter produced our foundation show bitch "CH Shu Mai's Right on Target", T.T. Tar, our first,
Shar-Pei show dog, had three litters by some of the most renowned gentleman of that time. In the five champions she produced, CH Tzo Wen's Bijoux, 1994 Westminster Kennel Club Best of Breed, and CH Tzo Wen's Audacious, 1993 World Champion were among the most well known.
It's been quite a learning experience with the Shar-Pei.
One we gladly share with people who have become as intrigued with the breed as we are. Through the years we have kept abreast with the most up to date medical knowledge on the breed and have based our breeding on healthy, well tempered males and females. Our dogs can easily go from living room sofa to the show ring.
Tzo Wen Chinese Shar-Pei now resides on 6 acres in Sparta, NJ. Our puppies are born in our home and have the luxury of large grassy paddocks to play in. Our young adults enjoy car rides to training class, and weekend shows. There are usually adorable puppies wanting to screen prospective parents.
